Susan Danziger '86 is the Founder and CEO of DailyLit (www.dailylit.com). DailyLit is the leading publisher of serialized books in digital form and was selected to be the #1 book website by the Sunday Times. Short book installments (read in under 3 minutes) are sent via email according to the schedule set by each reader. She worked in publishing for a number of years at Random House, led bicycle tours through France, and was a coat-check girl for one of the best French restaurants in New York City. Susan graduated as a College Scholar from Cornell University where she studied Comparative Literature and Art History. She also received her J.D. from New York University School of Law. She lives with her husband and three children in Westchester, New York.
Marilyn Laverty '76, President. Marilyn Laverty is Shore Fire Media's founder. An honors graduate in philosophy from Cornell University, Laverty was a successful freelancer for U.S. and British music magazines before she became a publicist. Her musical tastes and PR experience include virtually every music genre. She's a Jersey girl and is based at Shore Fire South, our office in Ocean Grove, NJ.
Ken Saji '92 is a Senior Editorial Director at MTV Networks, where he serves as a creative director and head writer for their Creative Services department. He is responsible for setting the creative vision and developing brand strategies for MTV Networks' corporate projects, which encompass integrated solutions across digital, on-air, video, print, radio and merchandise for business-to-business, consumer and internal communications. His award-winning work spans everything from integrated campaigns and large-scale pro-social causes to new business initiatives and brand development. He graduated from Cornell University cum laude with a degree in English, and from Columbia University's Graduate Writing Program.
Sheryl HIlliard Tucker '78 is a media and conference development consultant to Time Warner Inc. Prior to launching her consulting practice, Tucker was the executive editor of Time Inc., the publishing division of TW. In this role Tucker helped manage the company’s portfolio of more than 100 magazines and websites, including Time, Fortune, Money and Essence. Tucker also focused on talent management and was responsible for leading content diversity audits of Time Inc.’s domestic titles.
Previously, Tucker was executive editor of Money, where she managed some of the magazine’s most important franchises, including the annual Money Summit, which convened CEOs, government leaders and policymakers to discuss the changing landscape of the financial industry. She also managed Money’s groundbreaking Affluent Americans and Their Money research. Tucker helped developed the annual financial boot camp for the National Football League’s Rookie Symposium, where she is featured as a keynote speaker. Tucker also re-launched Your Company magazine (later renamed Fortune Small Business) — a Time Inc./American Express publication targeted to successful small business owners.
Before joining Time Inc., Tucker was editor-in-chief and vice president at Black Enterprise magazine. Under Tucker’s leadership, Black Enterprise won numerous journalism awards for its coverage of the nation’s most successful African American corporate CEOs, executives, professionals and entrepreneurs. While at Black Enterprise, Tucker developed her passion for researching, and lecturing on leadership, change management, and career management. Tucker has edited several books, including Prime Time: African American Women’s Guide to Midlife Health and Wellness and The New Money Book of Personal Finance. Tucker co-authored Tomorrow Begins Today: African American Women as We Age.
Tucker is an adjunct professor at New York University. She is on the National Advisory Board of the Poynter Institute (an education/research institute for journalism), the Advisory Board of the New York University Center for Publishing and the board of ASCENT, which provides executive training for multicultural women in partnership with The Tuck School (Dartmouth) and The Anderson School (UCLA). Tucker was the co-chair of the Time Warner Women’s Network and a member of the Time Inc. Diversity Council. Tucker has served on the board of the American Society of Magazine Editors. She has been a National Magazine Award finalist, honored as the 2007 Woman of the Year by 100 Black Men of America, named one of Glamour magazine’s Outstanding Working Women, and was inducted into New York City YWCA’s Academy of Women Achievers.
Tucker is a graduate of Cornell University and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Elected by the alumni body as a member of the Cornell University Board of Trustees, Ms. Tucker will begin her four-year term on July 1, 2010. She served on the Cornell University Council (1994-1998). She was an active member of the President’s Council of Cornell Women and served as its Vice Chair from 1993-1995. She is a member of the Cornell Magazine Board of Directors, the Cornell Alumni Mentor Program, and the Cornell Black Alumni Association.
Ms. Tucker is married to Roger C. Tucker III, an artist and art educator. They have two daughters: Ara, who is the Director of Diversity at the Philadelphia law firm Morgan Lewis. Ara is a graduate of Princeton and New York University Law School. Alexis, who also graduated from Princeton University, completed a Fulbright Fellowship and is now attending New York University Law School.
Scott Schiller '81, Senior Vice –President, Advertising Sales, Comcast Interactive Media
Scott Schiller leads advertising sales for Comcast’s digital media properties.
A key member of the CIM executive team, Schiller is responsible for digital ad revenue for both Comcast’s entertainment portfolio (Fandango, Fancast, E! Online, and G4 Online) as well as oversight supervision of ad sales for Daily Candy, the #1 lifestyle resource for young women today.
Schiller has more than 25 years of advertising, sales management and start-up media experience, in leading positions at worldwide entertainment brands including: Disney, AOL, Sony, Prodigy and MTV Networks. He is a co-founder of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), and was its first vice-chairman.
Prior to Comcast, Schiller was Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and the original Chief Revenue Officer of Glam Media, Inc., one of the fastest-growing digital lifestyle properties. Other key positions have included: Senior Vice President of Interactive Marketing for America Online (AOL Entertainment) ; Senior Vice-President of Branded Digital Sales for the Walt Disney Internet Group (ABC.com, ABCNews.com, Disney.com, Family.com and ESPN.com); Vice President of Advertising and Partnership Marketing for Sony Online Ventures (“The Station”); Vice President of Advertising Sales for Prodigy, the original online service; and roughly 10 years as account director, media sales for MTV Networks, during the cable TV’s early days.
Schiller’s career is founded in advertising and brand management at Grey Advertising. PepsiCo and Nestle Foods. He earned his BA in Economics from Cornell University and an MBA in Marketing/Finance from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, where he currently is leading a class in Managing Interactive Media.
A lifelong resident of New York City (that makes him a Yankee fan); he currently lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his wonderful wife and two boys.
